Dr. Joan (Joanie) Newland grew up in a Chicago suburb of Buffalo Grove, IL. From a young age Dr. Newland knew veterinary medicine was the path for her as she’s always felt “one” with animals. Her vet journey began at the University of Illinois Urbana- Champaign where she earned her undergraduate degree in Animal Sciences.

 After graduating, she took a year off of school to work as an assistant at the neighborhood hospital she’s brought her pets to her whole life. Thereafter, she attended Midwestern University in Glendale, Arizona where she earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Newland was brought to the Bay Area by her brother who has lived here the past 8 years. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her beloved dog and partner in crime; Lucy, hiking, the gym, hanging with friends and going to concerts. She is so excited to take care of your prized companions here at Kirkwood Animal Hospital!
