Dr. Alaine (Lainey) Hu is a native of San Jose who received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2004 from the University of California Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine — one of the best in the nation.

Following graduation, Dr. Hu participated in equine surgery and medicine internships at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, and San Luis Rey Equine Hospital in San Diego, California. Prior to entering the world of small animal veterinary medicine, Dr. Hu worked as a racetrack veterinarian in Southern California for 3 years. Before joining Kirkwood Animal Hospital in 2011, Dr. Hu volunteered as a veterinarian in Mongolia, where she attended to large and small animals.

Her main interests in small animal veterinary medicine are surgery and emergency medicine.

In her spare time, Dr. Hu enjoys traveling, horse riding, salsa dancing, yoga, gym, painting, rock climbing, snowboarding, and outdoor activities. She is the proud owner of an American Paint Horse and two Australian Kelpies.
